Our Farm Produces Premium Organic Food for Conscious Consumers
We believe in a sustainable system that produces nutritious food in harmony with the environment.
Pikiroa Organic Farm was certified organic by Biogro, New Zealand’s leading organic certifier, in 1998.
Our farm is on 1000 acres of land, located in the Waikato region in the North Island of New Zealand. The conditions in the Waikato region make it the perfect place for farming - with plenty of rainfall, sunshine, and mild enough winters that mean grass can grow year-round.
Our animals
DAIRY COWS
Our farm is home to 450 dairy cows, who produce organic milk for Fonterra.
SHEEP
80 Wiltshire cross ewes enjoy life at Pikiroa Farm, and produce around 150 lambs each year.
BEEF CATTLE
We rear 80 calves per year that are exclusively for our organic beef.
CHOOKS
Our 80 chooks who live freely in our paddocks produce the eggs we collect daily.
BEES
There are 2 bee hives in Pikiroa where they're free to produce their honey.
What we do
Organic, sustainable agriculture for the good of everybody
Organic farming is not just environmentally sustainable, it’s also friendly to humans, animals, vegetation, and soil. Our system is low input - our animals live outside and are grass-fed, ensuring that no hormones or GMOs make it into their food (or yours). It’s food the way it used to be - with all of the goodness, and none of the nasties.

We work with nature for environmentally friendly food production
You won’t find any toxic herbicides or pesticides on our farm. We care for our environment, so we work with nature by stimulating the development of beneficial microorganisms to populate the soil.
We keep our animals strong, healthy, and happy
Our happy cows and sheep have plenty of room to walk around and graze in our spacious paddocks. The grass we grow in these paddocks supports their health by being nutritionally balanced and mineral-dense.
Their immunity is boosted and we are able to avoid the use of antibiotics by supplementing their diets with trace elements, homeopathic remedies, and quality time.

Visit us and learn more about where your food comes from
We strongly believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to see and learn about where your food comes from. That’s why we offer unique farm experiences so that you can see real life on a working farm and learn about how organic food is produced. During these experiences, we explain our system, share our insights, and build awareness about what we are taking into our bodies.
Why do we grow organic?
There are so many reasons to choose organic, both as a producer and as a consumer of food. Our main reasons for growing organic are:

We are what we eat
We want to offer an option for New Zealanders to easily source affordable and real, nutritious food (veggies, beef, lamb, eggs and dairy products). Organic eating is a conscious way of life that is becoming more popular with people all around the world, who are looking for a clean, natural way to feed themselves and their families.

Benefits for people, animals, and the environment
Organic farming has a hugely positive impact on the environment and on animal welfare, and the final products are also highly beneficial for our health. In contrast, conventional food (non-organic) systems use eco-toxic pesticides, antibiotics, chemical fertilizers, and heavy metals, which stick around in the food and get absorbed into your body.

Organic farming is an important alternative to conventional farming
Food can be complicated. Many people who are looking for ways to minimize their own carbon footprints choose to eat organic because it’s so much friendlier to the environment than conventional or intensive farming. It can be confusing and frustrating to find a way to live sustainably when most of what is offered in the supermarket is produced in unsustainable ways. It’s becoming increasingly important to be aware of alternatives and to have the opportunity to learn more about how your food is produced. It will ease your mind!
How we produce our organic food
It starts with strong soil
We start with the soil! The goal is to produce highly nutritious food to be eaten by the animals and by us. So we make sure these minerals are available for absorption by encouraging microorganism biodiversity in our soil. This makes our soil the perfect home for good bacteria and fungi, which helps to grow better quality plants.
The more live organisms we have in the soil, the more nutritious the plants will be, resulting in better health for the animals and for you.
